BT 206 MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY II

This course teaches students the molecular research methodologies that are used to derive or develop pharmaceuticals, food, fuel, biomarkers, and other products from marine organisms. Emphasis in this course will be on the production of biofuel from marine algae as a strategy for an economically sustainable form of alternative energy. In addition, the course will teach genetic engineering methodologies designed to improve energy production phenotypes in eukaryotic microalgae and establish microalgae model systems for biofuel production. Lab: 6 hours per week. 3 Credits Prerequisites: CH 120 , BI 120 , and BT 108
