LI 205 BRITISH LITERATURE I
What does British literature look and sound like when it is more than 800 years old? Whose stories were told in this distant past and how have these stories changed over time? The early inhabitants of The British Isles created a diverse array of written texts, sparking a rich storytelling tradition. This course surveys the origins of British literature from the Anglo-Saxon period through the 18th century. Selected works range from tales of supernatural creatures to Shakespearean drama to extraordinary narratives of ordinary people. In studying these texts, we will explore the relationship between culture, language, and power. The course emphasizes critical reading and analysis of multiple genres. Lecture: 3 hours per week. 3 Credits Prerequisites: EN 101 .
