MN 220 THERMODYNAMICS I

Study of systems in which mass and energy flow across the systems’ boundaries. Properties of pure substance, phases and phase change, equation of state, work, heat, internal energy and thermodynamic processes. Control volume analysis of mass and energy and the second law of thermodynamics. Availability and irreversibility, analysis of both open and closed systems, and introduction to gas and vapor cycles. Lecture: 3 hours per week. Laboratory: 2 hours per week. 4 Credits Prerequisites: MA124, PY103
