SO 223 DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES



This course investigates dysfunctional family relationships, which unfortunately is a part of our society. Topics such as substance abuse, as it relates to family violence, incest, child abuse, elder abuse, and ritualistic behavior will be covered. Going beyond the immediate family, topics such as stalking and sexual abuse in vulnerable populations such as the elderly and the disabled will also be explored. Current theories as to why these behaviors exist will be covered as it relates to the topic. The course will look at the physiological, genetic, social and cultural aspects of each behavior.
