NU 180 CONCEPTS IN PHARMACOLOGY FOR LPN TO RN BRIDGE

This course builds on the practical nurses knowledge of medications and the nurse’s role in administration by gaining a deeper understanding of how various classes of drugs exert their effects on human cells and tissues. Students will learn to classify agents according to their pharmacologic properties thus reenforcing an understanding of a broad range of therapeutic effects as well as unintended adverse effects and their implications for nursing practice as a registered nurse. Rather than memorizing individual agents according to the disorders they are used to treat, students will focus on prototypes representative of other medications with similar mechanisms of action in the same class. 3 credits, Prerequisites Bl 215, Bl 217, Bl 223, PS 101, EN 101.
