SX 110 PRINCIPLES OF SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY I



This course introduces the field of Surgical Technology. Emphasis is on aseptic technique, decontamination, sterilization and basic case preparation. Topics presented include pathophysiology, anesthesia and pharmacology transport and positioning, history of surgical technology, microbiology and wound healing, legal, ethical and moral principles, operating room hazards, and handling of specimens and patient property. OR records and required counts are presented along with hospital and operating room organizational structures and professional roles. Medical Terminology is presented as a self-instructional module. Lecture: 4 hours per week. Lab: 8 hours per week. Co-requisite: BI 101, BI 113 8 Credits Corequisite: BI 101, BI 113
