Phlebotomy Skills Certificate

This summer program is designed to prepare the students for a phlebotomy career in a variety of health care settings, including medical clinic labs, physician practice labs, or hospital-based labs. This is a hands-on training of blood drawing and minimally invasive point of care lab testing. It is appropriate for entry-level job candidates, as well as for those wishing to make a career change. This program has lectures asynchronous online and on campus lab and in person capstone (160 hours) offered during the daytime hours 8 am-5:30 pm at a clinical affiliate. (Many health students will utilize this summer course to fulfill contact hours needed for other programs).

Admission Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

MassBay Placement into Freshman English (EN 101 ).

MassBay Placement into Intermediate Algebra (MA 98 ). Successful completion of Reading Assessment Test with a score of 246 or higher.

Students are required to attend an Admissions Information  

Session and a program-specific new student orientation.

Required Pre-Entry Documentation

To be eligible to enroll in PB106 Phlebotomy Capstone, which is required to complete this certificate program, all students must set up a Viewpoint account and upload all required health forms and documentation (medical clearance and proof of immunizations as required by state law and outlined in the Division of Health Sciences Handbook), by the start of the Capstone semester. To be eligible to enroll in PB106 Phlebotomy Capstone, which is required to complete this certificate program, all students complete this certificate program, all students must complete the CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information form to authorize a search of conviction and pending criminal case information under Standard Required Level I by the DCJIS (Department of Criminal Justice Information Services and SORI (Sexual Offender Registry Information) in accordance with state regulations CORI and SORI results are confidential. If a CORI and/or SORI report is returned with finding(s), it may or may not prohibit progression in a Health Sciences Program. A National County Criminal Background check will be conducted as a part of the student’s completion of the clinical requirements.

Students must have proof of CPR Certification

Applicants to the Phlebotomy program are required to attend a recent information session. Times and dates for these sessions can be located at Information Session Schedule
